As I am accustomed to managing things as a system, in manufacturing, in training (my current profession), in business and in investment, naturally I will try to take a system approach to manage our body system from health and wellness perspectives.
Systemic approach is important as we see too many sincere efforts not producing the intended results. Very often we get un-intended negative consequences. It is frustrating or even tragic when so much good effort results in disasters or creating more harms.
We witness the severe damage to living things and environment with DDT, which was the cleverest invention then. The Philippines experienced food shortage after years of introduction of “Miracle Rice” that supposedly create food abundance.
While we are concerned about our health and wellness, do we run into the same problem and danger in fragmentized approach and not holistic management, resulting in things we want to avoid like illness, cancers, or painful death?
We hear people taking regular exercise, like body builders, who die an earlier age of heart attack or other illness. Or, taking diet with great care and yet end up a sick patient. That is on a scale of one extreme. On the other hand, we know of people who are chain-smokers, for years after years and yet live into hundredth year.
A System Approach
A simple model is used :
Input -> [XXYYZZ ] -> Output
The bracket or the box represents the body system, within which are the various organs, tissues, nerves, cells etc. etc. forming various subsystems like respiratory system, digestive system, circulation system, etc. etc.
Specialists are scientists who fragment the entire system into subsystems, or even a single organ for detailed study. While they bring about sophisticated knowledge and technology in diagnosis, analysis and treatment, they could not bring about better and deeper understanding of the entire body system from good health and wellness angles. They are more like highly trained fire-fighters, putting off fires with great effort (cost you a lot of money also), yet they can’t bring down the sickness or related death statistics. They cannot give ordinarily people like us any assurance about our health and wellness in the future. We can only pray more often, buy the ever increasing high medical insurance premium.
From the system model, we take a careful look at Input and Output, and make more conscious re-examination. If there is quality input and quality output, it represents a good system. If it is a good body system, we do not need the specialist-doctors, nor medical insurance. If it is not a good body system, take a closer look at the Input and Output first, before taking up too many efforts like visiting specialists doctors (unless chronic or critical cases), spending money on all sorts of herds, supplements, vitamins etc.
Inputs
I would like to categorize the various inputs to our body system as follow
-
Foods, we eat or drink
-
Air and Environment, we breath and live in
-
Activities and Exercises we induce to our body
-
Current ideas, beliefs and knowledge we acquire
In the later, on ideas, beliefs and knowledge, we can easily see the mistakes made by older generations e.g. on hygiene ignorance that led to sickness epidemics. We need to be open-minded about our current knowledge, which may be misleading also.
Outputs
We could think of outputs in the followings:
-
Growth (wanted and unwanted): e.g. we want or expect healthy growth from baby to child to adulthood. We also fear unwanted growth like tumors, or cancerous cell colonies.
-
Discharges : Passing motion, urine, sweat and exhaled
air.
Precise Relationship between Inputs and Outputs
Until today modern age, we do not yet have a precise scientific formula to describe the equation Inputs = Outputs. But we should recognize the importance of a good balance between all the variables.
However, due to ignorance, limited knowledge, bias (like the food, drugs, supplement or health industries, agents, promoting products and services for their profit) and in-discipline, we tend to focus only a few aspects of the variables, hence the specialists or interest-groups.
We have health committed people investing in food supplements and exercises (with sophisticated equipment) while their favorite foods continue to generate “poisons” to their body system. We also have people living in stressful environment, far beyond their threshold level, with their survival depending on
a high cost health restoration program.
We have many, currently look healthy people, not knowing their discharging system shows sign of weakening or defects in the processing systems of the body as they hardly sweat (how to sweat in air-con office or gym!?), or urinate
(until urine in the system becomes stones), or pass motion. As life is to too interesting, too exciting, too busy to notice anything about the discharging system, until the drainage is badly blocked, with many illness and symptomic pains.
Will we ever ponder, with the amount of food we consume, there is little physical discharge in stools, where do these foods go to? Besides becoming fat, would not these foods changed to poisons in our body and give rise to all the illness?
Note as on Mac. 2008:
After learning Energy Medicine - a missing
component in the above is the Positive Energy input that is to be
channeled by self or healer by using breathing and mind power, through
the body and discharged as negative energy. This intangible
intervention can be very powerful and effective especially in the so
called incurable diseases.
