The concept of “Poison” is a useful and powerful notion in health and wellness management.
The Chinese word “Poison” has a high and significant impact and connotation in communicating with Chinese readers on health and wellness of body and mind.
It is hoped that after you read this article, the better understood concept of “Poison” will help you to manage your health better.
In English, “Poison” is seldom used in food and health vocabulary, rather the word “Toxin” is used..
Dictionary Definition
Referring to “Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary”, “Poison” is define as
1 a : a substance that through its chemical action usually kills, injures, or impairs an organism b (1) : something destructive or harmful (2) : an object of aversion or abhorrence
2 : a substance that inhibits the activity of another substance or the course of a reaction or process <a catalyst poison>
Whereas “Toxin” is defined as
a poisonous substance that is a specific product of the metabolic activities of a living organism and is usually very unstable, notably toxic when introduced into the tissues, and typically capable of inducing antibody formation
Hence, in food and health, we can visualize “poison” as something we consume that through it chemical action or reaction or lack of necessary chemical action and reaction in our body and eventually produce harmful products “toxins” represented by sickness, tumor, or cancerous growth.
Input and Output Model
Referring to our earlier discussed “Input and Output Model” in “Health and Wellness as a System” (http://www.360q.com/Purity/P02.htm), we can now take the Input (food, drink, air we breath) as “Poison” – something that may potentially cause harm, or produce “toxins” to our body, with certain chemical action or reaction or lack of it.
The notion helps us to be careful with food intake, make us more open-minded to study new research work on potential harmful food intake, especially those we take for granted or brainwashed ideas on health food.
We begin to pay attention to daily, weekly, monthly, yearly consumption of regular foods, which are classified as “poison” that can cumulatively produce toxins in our body system.
Correlation : Sickness and Poison
With the concept of “Poison”, we can interpret to a large extent sickness, cancers, pain and discomfort as a sign or manifestation of poisons at work in our body. Besides symptomic treatments of the problem, we need to get rid of the source of the problem, i.e. the food intake.
(Note: we will explore more of Dr. Lin’s work and research on our daily foods that have high poison contents.)
Exercises, Diets and Poison
With this concept of “Poison”, it becomes easier to explain why some people who are conscious about health, e.g. take regular exercises, take diet control, supplements, herbs etc. still develop into sickness.
From the Input Output Model, we can say that amount of Poison Intake is more than what these exercises, diet, supplements or herbs can process to be discharged regularly and consistently.
Then we have to begin to look at the Health and Wellness as a System and manage it holistically.
End.
