Is there an end to Autism definition?

The ancient sages say : “Balancing Yin and Yang chase away thousands of illnesses” *”调理阴阳治万病”*。

Is it that simple?

It is actually a concept and theory.

Let’s talk about thousands of illnesses. Today Western Medicine identifies and labels close to 100,000 illness / diseases with names. And more and more diseases are discovered with label everyday. Then more research and medicine invention, with more sides effects creating more diseases.

This is a vicious cycle created by modern medicinal science.

In year 1911, Western Medicine coined “Autism” for certain symptoms experienced by some children.

Do you know that by today, how many times they change the definition of autism? So many times and the definition still keep changing, as more symptoms are discovered to be group-classified.

We can conclude that there is endless changes to diseases / illnesses. They are not static.

Why the ancient sages say : Focus on balancing Yin and Yang, and not keep chasing after endless changes of diseases / illnesses. It seems ancient sages already for-saw today 100,000 labeled illnesses.

Take a look at your smart handphone, or computer, accessing to internet, isn’t there thousands and millions of information, which keep changing and multiplying.

How are all these information get structurally created?

Very simple. It is the binary magic, “0” and “1”.

With different arrangement and combination and permutation of “0” and “1”, e.g. 0011, 0101, 0001110, etc. we can get millions and endless data generation. Some information are useful, many are junk like diseases.

Ancient sages had this understanding as expressed in Yin and Yang, i.e. “0” and “1”.

Hence instead of focusing and chasing after endless changes, just focus on the “0” and “1” to make it dynamically stable. And stability represents health.

What is Yin-Yang?

This is quite an abstract concept, which I had discussed early. And now we make some more illustration.

I had mentioned, ancient sages classified “Spleen as Yin” and “Stomach as Yang.”

Yin is defined as stable, dense and no-movement and with form.

Yang is defined as constant movement, dynamic, non-tangible and no form.

Physiologically we also observe Spleen is dense and stomach is hollow to receive new intake of foods. After foods are digested, one feels hungry and want to take more foods. Hence Stomach as Yang is constantly in motion.

If we eat too much foods, the stomach is overloaded and could not function well. Against the natural physiological function, the stomach is not more able to be empty and over loaded with food cause little movement.

Then Yin and Yang is no longer in balance. Sickness will occur.

It is that simple.

Likewise, physiology is Yin, and Emotion / Psychology is Yang.

When emotion is out of controlled, then the Yang is in chaos, and Yin (physiology, or body) also becomes unstable. E.g. it can be stomach, no appetite for foods, indigestion etc.

Then Yin and Yang is out of balance again. These can produce all sorts of sickness, bloatedness, diarrhea, constipation, etc etc.

Instead of looking for many different medical specialists to attend to the above many symptoms, fundamentally just balance the emotions and body, balancing the Yin and Yang. As a concept, it is that simple.

Likewise in the case of autistic child, we learn to make careful observation in what ways Yin and Yang are not balanced, and do the balancing. 调理。

We will discuss more on the subject of autism.

The ancient sages say : “Balancing Yin and Yang chase away thousands of illnesses” *”调理阴阳治万病”*。

Do you appreciate more the wisdom of YEIC?

There is no need to be frightened by all the heavy and scarry 100,000 medical labeled illnesses, like cancers, autism, learn more about the ancient wisdom to focus on the Yin and Yang imbalance for balancing.

This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in the  online training.

High Blood Pressure – Wrong Focus !!

In the Mandarin WhatsApp group, a member asks :

“Teacher, high blood pressure is due to which organ out of balance? How to avoid taking high blood pressure medicine?”

I ask : “Are you referring to western medicine ??”,she replied : “Yes”

Come to think of it, there are many illnesses require lifelong medication, including high blood pressure.

Lifelong medication to the ancient sage is a rather ridiculous thing. The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic (YEIC) principle is “Restore body organs functionalities, you get well”. If herbs and acupuncture could not cure, consider daily practice of Life Cultivation 养生之道。

Back to the topic of high blood pressure, the issue is not which organ is out of balance, perhaps in the previous discussion, body organ functionalities are often mentioned.

I explain as follow.

Western Medicine focuses on “Pressure” and uses instrument to measure it.

YEIC does not use pressure as a concept. Instead a more powerful concept “Qi-blood” is used to explain many phenomena in the body functionalities or operational problems or illnesses.

When a person is very angry, he feels pressure in his head. Interestingly in Chinese language, angry (生气) ,means generate a lot of qi, resulting in pressure.

It is the qi that raises the blood pressure, and pressure is the end product.

Hence it is wise to put focus on the factor that creates pressure, i.e. qi.

Western Medicine does not have “Qi” concept, they consider high blood pressure is due to blood vessels lack elasticity, or damaged. Hence medication and necessary surgery are the main approaches.

“Qi-blood” is needed to all parts of the body. When you have high workload and the boss is impatiently waiting for your delivery of work, your head feels the pressure. That is because the body needs to send much more “Qi-blood” to your brain to help you finish your task and you feel the pressure or fainting.

If your body constituent (体质) is weak, particularly short of breath, i.e. your “Qi” is weak, and your “Qi-blood” is inadequate ( eg. anemia ),and you struggle to complete the task, besides having high blood pressure, you may have other problems like cold feet (as most qi-blood goes to the head, not feet), insomnia, anxiety attack, … which further increases your high blood pressure.

If you have blood stasis, eg. ladies with irregular periods, thick blood, or with high fat contents in the blood, and fluid part of the blood, due to poor metabolism, contains phlegm, or toxins, which manifest in your urine, stools, sweat, i.e. as per YEIC, called “Yin-Yang imbalance”, … isn’t it true then the Qi needs enormous force to move the heavy, contaminated blood and fluid, causing high blood pressure?

Earlier we have many discussions on our diets, lack of exercises to move qi, our emotions, feelings, personality, life attitude, … affecting Yin-Yang Balance, 阴阳失调,which further affect body organs functionalities, 五脏六腑功能失调,these cause high blood pressure, which is not due to only one organ issue.

Hence if you accept the teaching of ancient wisdom, and practice daily Life Cultivation 养生,and raise the quality of Qi, Blood, body Fluid, you can do away with medication ?, and not suffer high blood pressure, don’t you agree? ???

This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in  online training.

Must sportsman be more Healthy?

Datuk Lee Chong Wei, a Malaysia National shuttler, is suffering from early nose cancer. Everyone feels distressed and wishes him a speedy recovery.

Someone said: “I never thought that a top-ranking player with such a disciplined and healthy life would also develop cancer.”

Many people think that sportsmen should be healthy and how can they get sick?

Today we talk about sportsmen and health.

Early we have discussed 3000 years ago ancient sages proposes illnesses theory, the various factors like internal and external causes, today we only concentrate on a few variables.

Let’s start with simple logic. (I only bring out the concept of “Qi- blood” as per YEIC)

When athletes do intense exercise, breathing and heartbeat naturally accelerated. A lot of Qi-blood needs to be supplied to the heart and lungs. The body consumes a lot of “blood” and “qi”.

Intense exercise produces internal heat, body temperature increases, burning body fluids, turning into sweat. This also consumes body fluids in the body.

The “Qi, blood, and body fluid” consumed need adequate supplement .

(blood, and body fluid = Yin, Qi=Yang)

How to provide supplement?

It is necessary to have enough sleep and a proper diet.

Western nutrition theory only has the theory of protein, vitamin, etc. There is no clear guidance on how to supplement “qi, blood, and fluid” particularly.

The ancients experimented with a variety of different foods and analyzed their effects, such as what foods can produce blood, fluid, and Qi.

At the same time, it also needs to correspond to the individual’s body constitution. Therefore, different athletes should have different types of diets as supplements.

When in intense exercise, Qi and blood is specially supplied from the other organs to the heart and lungs. This also causes other visceral imbalance.

If other visceral features are inherently dysfunctional (because they are congenitally insufficient / acquired during growing stage), then there are double imbalances to manage.

At the same time, the ancient sages also said that emotions, personality also affects the function of the organs, such as “anger affects liver”, “fear affects kidneys”, and so on. Athletes, like everyone else, also have their own emotions to balance.

Besides, sweating consumes a lot of body fluid, which also causes the metabolism to lose balance and needs conditioning.

If the functions of the internal organs are seriously out of balance or dysfunctional, all sorts of diseases can occur, not necessarily just nose cancer!

Disorders of the internal organs need to be conditioned every day.

Conditioning also needs to understand the theory of “yin and yang, qi, and five elements of doctrine” to understand the changes in yin and yang of your body every day.

Then there is another factor, a habit that everyone takes for granted, after intense exercise, feeling thirsty, drink a lot of cold drinks!

Let’s analyze it again, the heat inside the body, and then a cold drink, what effect on the body?

A person who doesn’t know how to cook, burns the rice cooker very hot and pours cold water on the pot. Over time, will not the rice pot crack? This is called “Thermal Spalling”, crack as a result of expansion and contraction.

Internal heat, sweating, drinking cold drinks, as a habit, over time, will Not the blood vessel weakened or harmed? Can Qi-blood still flow smoothly?

The ancients have always stressed the importance of “cold and hot, that is, yin and yang.” Western medicine has no theory of cold and heat.

From the above discussion, do you realize that sportsmen need to learn more about Life Cultivation as per Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic in order to truly enjoy sports healthily?

This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in the video training courses.

Ancient sages used their brains or not?

Today we discuss whether ancient sages did use their brains or not?

In Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic (YEIC), Heart is compared to Fire, something hot. Kidneys are compared to Water, something cooling. Spleen is compared to Earth, something stable.

Western Medicine scholars surely laugh at such ridiculous comparison. They only focus on actual facts : how large is the heart, what colors, what cells etc.. They often consider YEIC not scientific.

Let me use simple logic to explain.

Isn’t heart continuously pumping bloods, and it is like machine in constant motion. Such motion produces heat, isn’t it? Hence ancients sages use Fire to represent Heart.

Logic also tells us, Kidneys function is concerning filtration of liquid into urine to be sent to the bladder. it is like irrigation system, Then liquid is a form of water, And Water is used to represent Kidneys.

Ancients sages also figured out how Fire (Heart) and Water (Kidneys) work hand in hand. They observe the nature, the sun is high up, hot. The earth and ocean are down below, cool.

In out body, heart is like the sun, high up and kidneys are like the ocean, down below.

The earth and ocean needs heat from the sun, otherwise the earth and ocean will be frozen into ice.

The sun cannot be too hot, otherwise the earth dry up and become deserts. Then the oceans, after heated by the sun, steam rises to form cloud to cool the upper sphere.

Then the high atmosphere is cool, rain forms when cold is encountered. Falling rain nourishes the earth.

This is the natural cycle and phenomena, which the ancients sages observe.

Sun heats the earth / ocean, the heated water vapour rises to cool the upper atmosphere, to shield the hot sun, and fall as rain to cool the earth.

From such observation, ancient sages conclude our body system behaves in similar fashion, and consider our internal body like an internal universe.

Then the heart heat must be able to heat the kidney water, and the heated steam rises to the heart to cool it down. The cycle repeats.

On conceptual level, Heart is Yang, and Kidney is Yin. Yin-Yang theory was formulated to explain phenomena. And such theory is used to explain deviation, like illnesses.

So what the ancient sages did was the following process : 1) Observation, 2) Making hypothesis, 3) Experiment, 4) Verification.

Now you tell me, didn’t ancients sages use their brain and use scientific methods?

If you think that ancient sages are indeed scientific in approach. Do you think the Western Medicine is not scientific?

Of course not! The key difference is ancient sages observe the nature and universe to understand how things work. Whereas Western Medicine, since the invention of microscope, they narrowly focus on what can be seen underneath the microscope, virus, bacteria etc. and use these to explain the body symptoms and illnesses. And they cut of emotions and person’s personality in their study of Western Medicine, consider them non-contributing factors.

Ancient sages preferred to understand things holistically.

Ancient sages did use their brain, ya?

This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in on-line training .

Yin Yang concepts and Application

Female is Yin, male is Yang.

Female is more emotional and the body helps to balance the emotion by regular periods, discharging bloods also help to expel negative energy.

Whereas male does not have such advantage. And male tends to keep their emotions buried, harmful to the body system.

Perhaps that is why statistically on average male has shorter life span.
As human being, we all have emotions. Since male does not have periods, how do male release their acquired negative emotions?

Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic (YEIC) identifies “Liver has the function to release and rediate Qi, hence bloods”, assisted by gallbladder.

How to understand such?

YEIC further says : “Liver manifests its stored emotion in dispersing qi and Gallbladder qi is descending”.

“Liver has function in thinking and strategizing, Gallbladder in decision making” “Liver Stores Creativity”

黄帝内经曰 : “肝主疏泄,胆主通降”,”肝主谋虑,胆主决断”,”肝藏魂”。

Hence healthy male manifests his natural ability in rational thinking and decision making, with flexibility and creativity. And male has the responsibility to be the breadwinner for the family.

A good quality attribute of Leader is strong Liver Qi and Gallbladder Qi.

But some male fail to exhibit such attributes. And they habitually drink wine to release, and using the drunken state to scold people, release his anger. After he becomes sober, he is as timid as a mouse again.

Weak Liver-qi and Gallbladder-qi make such male indecisive, worrying type. They hardly can achieve anything in life. With improper diet, they get sick easily with gallbladder stone etc.

Many organisation members exhibit such weak attributes. They take no initiatives, only to act according to boss’s instruction.

Many gamblers, avoiding making decision, indulge in casino hoping luck comes their way.

Some males go the other extremes. They are impulsive as they do not think through thoroughly before making decision. They want to be instant hero only met with more failures. Their Liver-qi and gallbladder-qi are in excessive.

Some with uncontrolled liver-qi, scold and insult people without reasons, like some bosses. In the end they get high blood pressure and stroke or diabetes.

Even though female has periods to regulate their emotions, they also face many challenges, as they often feel unhappy, that result in all types of illnesses also.

Perhaps God is fair, giving different challenges to males and females.

This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in  On-Line training .

“Organs functionalities 五脏六腑功能”, “Liver function in dispersion of Qi 肝主疏泄,Gallbladder Qi descends 胆主通降”,”Liver function in strategizing 肝主谋虑,Gallbladder in decision making 胆主决断”,”Liver stores soul 肝藏魂”.

Some Autistic Behaviors Explained

Yesterday we discussed how crying with tears and nose running come about, with the principles and logic given by ancient sages 3000 years ago.

What is amazing is that today modern science and Western Medicine still cannot offer a logical explanation to many physiological phenomena.

Today, from yesterday discussion, we talk about autism and its explanation.

We all know that challenge of having autistic child is enormous, especially for the parents, besides the child in suffering.

We discuss some aspects of autistic child’s behavioral challenges.

Some autistic children cover their ears, screaming, as if hearing some horrible sounds, and knock their heads against the wall. They have uncontrolled fears.

Western scientists discover that these children are very sensitive to sound, even what we consider reasonable sounds, to them like thunders. Their hearing faculty is in disarray. Yet Western Medicine doctors cannot pinpoint what actually is wrong with the ears.

Special Needs Education specialists advise the parents to send the children to all sorts of therapies, Occupational Therapy, Sensory Integration therapy, Speech therapy etc.

These specialists consider the autistic child’s problems as behavioral.

What do ancient sages say about this?

YEIC says, : “Kidneys functionalities manifest at ears” “Both ears are linked with the brain”, “Kidneys stores Essence, Essence gives rise to bone marrow, and bone marrow give rise to brain for all mental activities”.

Mind you, the above were recorded 3000 years ago, whereas Western Medicine has only 200 years history.

The above implies ears, hearing, brain, kidneys, … are part of a sub-system and parts are not to be separately treated.

YEIC also says : “Kidneys stores DNA” This implies if the mother’s health conditions are not good during pregnancy, the health of the fetus and baby are greatly affected.

Note: Health conditions not good does not mean must have serious illnesses, It can be the mother’s body constituent is cold in nature, without warmth to nourish the fetus.

Different autistic child has different sensory faculties out of balance. It can be hearing, sighting, touching, tastes and smell, which also affect speech learning. These sensory faculties are closely related to the 5 key organs functionalities.

Today the rate of autistic children is on the increase, and these can be correlated to the general health of the population too.

Hence in the above case example, the child behaves like encountering ghosts, screaming with both hands covering the ears, knocking his head against the wall, kidneys functionalities must be restored, not OT or other types of behavioral therapies.

When we understand more and more the wisdom of the ancient sages, we will not subject the autistic children to unnecessary therapies for which they must have suffered a great deal insides without able to tell the parents.

For the young adults, YEIC knowledge is so valuable for you to bring out a new healthy generation, don’t you agree?

This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in the video training class ,

Have we forgotten the existence of our body?

Have we forgotten the existence of our own body? Are we divorced from our body?

This is a very critical issue. Not a joke!

Only when we fell ill in bed, we realized the existence of the body. Only when we are for too long or too much torturing the body, the body hits back with pain and illnesses, only then we recognize the existence of the body.

Our two-day Huang Di Nei Jing (YEIC) training discusses the causes of illnesses 1) external causes, 2) internal causes, and 3) not internal nor external causes. One of them is our living habits, unconsciously forgetting the body!

Forgetting the body, not knowing the existence of the body, tormenting the body is worse than torturing the slave. At least you can see that the slave in front of you is suffering, but you are not aware of the existence of your body.

The body is alive, you forget him, torture him, and one day he will knock at your door and use the pain and disease to settle with you.

How do you forget the existence of the body? It is in our pursuit of ideals, business, career, work, hobbies, enjoy a good life, food, play.

There is nothing wrong with pursuing an ideal. There is nothing wrong with doing business. There is nothing wrong with doing work. There is nothing wrong with enjoying life.

The body only needs, during your busy process, giving him 2-3 minutes every half hour to acknowledge his existence.

How do you acknowledge the existence of the body?

In our two days YEIC training we introduced and discussed many small movements exercises.

The simplest little act is to pay attention to your breathing. Wow, suddenly we find that we were too busy just now, forgetting that our body is breathing. Enjoy breathing for 2-3 minutes.

There are many different little acts/movements to choose from. From the YEIC training, we understand the theories behind the small movements, such as “Qi”, “Qi mechanics”, “Meridians”, “Acupoints”, “Visceral organs”, “Yin and Yang”

Especially in busy schedule with stress, mood swing, emotions such as tension, worry, fear, and anger, we have a demonstration in the training class, how to calm down the negative emotions in just a few minutes.

These habits of small movements every half hour every day will be much more effective than the exercise, or Qigong you do once a week, or traveling abroad to beautiful scenic places every year.

With this good habit, our mind is inseparable from our body, our body is yin, and our attention to the body is yang. Both yin and yang are interdependent, and neither party can exist separately from the other side.

This discussion involves a few key concepts ..

How crying comes about?

It is common we cry with tears when we feel sad, especially for ladies.

Sometimes tears with running nose.

How do we explain physiologically the happening, tears and running nose?

Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic (YEIC) says : “Heart manifests in Happiness”, likewise, heart also manifests sadness.

Hence in extreme happiness and sadness, the heart is “moved”, causing imbalance. And extra energy is necessary to restore balance. Such energy, the old sages called “Qi-Blood”.

YEIC also says “Liver is responsible for distribution of Qi and Blood”. Then, in the above case, the Qi-Blood must be directed to the heart.

As the Liver is doing extra work to deliver the Qi-blood, energy, Liver also needs extra energy (qi-blood), which is drawn from the Kidneys, the reservoirs of energy, This reservoir is like Retirement Fund, meant to be used at old age. YEIC says, “Kidneys stores Essence”.

Kidneys are represented by Water as per 5-element theory. And indeed Kidneys are in charge of body fluids, including urine.

YEIC says, the fluid part of the Liver is tears. And Kidneys direct the fluids to the Liver.

YEIC also says “Liver manifests in Eyes”. Then on one hand, Liver delivers Qi-Blood to the heart, Kidneys supply fluid (a form of energy or fuel) to the Liver too. The by-product of the above Liver operation is Tears.

To supply Qi-blood, obviously we need Qi to move the blood. This requires the working function of Lungs, taking in air through breathing. YEIC says : Lungs manifests in running nose fluid. And Lungs manifest at nose. Then we have running nose.

With excessive discharge of tears and running nose fluids, the digestion is affected. No appetite for foods, then lack of foods as nutrients to make fresh Qi-Blood.

Hence excessive emotional upheavals harm Heart, Lungs, Liver, Kidneys and Spleen.

That is why ancients sages consider the importance of emotions affecting health.

In fact, any time, whatever activities, emotional, mental, or manual work, energy or Qi-blood is consumed. If excessive, health imbalance is caused, as all 5 key organs are affected.

In the extreme case of sadness with non stop crying, the kidney-essence maybe excessively consumed. And the person may go blind, or all sorts of illnesses.

If you ask Western doctors about sadness, tears and running nose, how would they explain?

Likely they say : “No big deal, it is natural.” or “there are tears glands, tears are secretion, ..” and they do not have other theories to explain further.

Isn’t it typical that Western Medicine cannot explain fully many illnesses, but vaguely say nervous system in the case of Parkinson or dementia. But they offer you medicines and surgical procedures. Funny, ya?

Does it mean that one should not have emotions, no crying is better?

Not so.

If a child never has any emotions, no sadness, no anger, no fear …etc

Then it reflects the organs functionalities are out of balance. All are needed in moderation, the key philosophy of YEIC.

Actually children crying does not necessarily indicate sadness, but activating the functions of the lungs and hearts etc. They cry at one moment, and laugh and play when you shift their attention.

Not long ago, I had a coaching . counselling case. She has a lot of sad stories, and she said she had run out of tears. During coaching, she only used her mind to communicate with me, no emotions.

One day, something big and negative triggers her emotions deeply. She seems like totally collapsed and called me urgently. When I met up with her, in her emotional stage, she was able to release her emotions and her breathing became calmer and we had a more effective coaching session.

Sadness is energy. Emotion is energy. Energy can be transformed.

Now do you appreciate more and more the ancients wisdom, 3000 years ago they gave us principles and theories to explain and understand many phenomena and how to strengthen the organs functionalities, which is like the immune system.
